That’s right fall is coming, or at least whatever passes for fall here in Casa. We have noticed it’s a little cooler in the morning and the evening which has been nice and the walk to pick up Patrick from school is just full of flowers blooming! It’s still blazing hot (according to me) in the middle of the day, and I’m still shutting the house up in the afternoon to keep the heat out, but I’m noticing those small shifts and I expect pretty soon I’ll be keeping everything open all day to tempt the last of the sunlight in and closing it up at night to help the house stay warm.
The streets are finally returning to a more normal routine after the holiday as well. After a little thought it made sense to me that the butchers would all be closed since everyone has so much meat from the holiday, but I’m only just now realizing how many other vendors were closed as well. Life quietly rolls along here and it’s nice to feel that natural ebbs and flows, and to feel as though I am becoming part of the wider community. We will always be outsiders here, but people recognize me now and that’s kinda nice.
We haven’t really been out on a lot of adventures yet we are just enjoying settling into daily life, which at this point is adventure enough! David is still wrapping his head around the new school and planning so that has been consuming part of our weekend each week as well. It’s been nice to feel settled and “at home,” and since I haven’t been working I don’t feel the rush to get everything done in just a few days.
Speaking of working I had my first teaching day earlier this week! I think it went pretty well, and while the jury is still out on how passionate I feel about it (or if I want to make a career out of it), it is nice to get out of the house two times a week. It also means Ellie goes to “school” twice a week, which so far is going ok. It gets better each time and I think it’s good for her to have those little moments of independence.
Ok enough rambling for one day! Hopefully we will get out on a little adventure this weekend and I will have something fun to report!
